With a sound that incorporates unlikely elements Charli Hunt's *Conscious Underground* series continues the work she set out to develop in other recordings. Hunt’s background deviates from the dominant “traditional” and “dance-hall” personae in caribbean/reggae music as she would later attempt to alter the genre stylistically.
A selected set of musicians and artists joined her cause to create an alternative aesthetic in pop and soul music. She re-purposes the original instrumentation into new productions within a familiar framework -- carefully, blending source musicianship with her bouncy rap and silky smooth vocals. Her new arrangements deliver a tone much closer to an American take on a Caribbean tune.
